Riley and Basil’s Puppies are here!

August 24, 2017 – All of the pups have left and the puppy pen is empty. Always a sad time here. We won’t have any more puppies until 2018 as we take some time to rest. We are so thankful to all of the people that found us and are now taking great care of the pups we raised! We are happy to say that the families of Riley and Piper’s litters have helped us donate another $3,000.00 to Amazima Ministries to help some children in Uganda eat, learn and LIVE!  We are now enjoying all the updates and contact with our families as we watch the pups grow through pictures and emails.

August 15, 2017 – Our puppy pen is emptying out quickly it seems, with a couple of pups leaving each day. We’re continuing to work on crate training, sitting, and coming for treats and the pups are doing well! We managed to take a few pictures of some of the puppies today.

August 9, 2017 – It’s kind of hard to believe it’s been 7 weeks since I helped Mama Riley bring these little pups into the world. Wow. We are on our final stretch with these little ones and I am so pleased at how they’re doing! Their temperament and confidence is evident in their behaviors, willingness to easily submit and ability to settle down quickly when picked up. They’re smart and are learning to sit for attention and for our little cheddar cheese bites.(Linguine wins the prize on that one! But they all develop at different stages even within the same litter. Linguine was the largest since birth and he’s been a bit ahead on everything.) We started individual crate training and there is some fussing (always is) but they started settling down and relaxing pretty quickly. We don’t give in to whining in the crate or in the pen. We hope that their forever families will do the same. Thankfully, we don’t hear much whining out of this bunch. It is mostly peaceful and quiet here. Of course, meal times they get a little yelpy as they see me but they are good eaters and are happiest with their full tummies. They are litter box trained completely and we haven’t had to clean up a mess or wash a towel in a long time. Nice!  The pups will have their spay/neuter surgeries, along with exams and microchips this Friday August 11. We expect excellent reports all around. Here they are, the cutie pies. The Noodle Doodles!

August 2, 2017 – Riley and Basil’s puppies are 6 weeks old and doing well! They are a super quiet litter, typical of Basil’s puppies. Even when I come in the room in the morning, they are so hungry but they quietly wait for me to get their food ready. They are on kibble almost entirely now. They seem to have all their teeth at this point. Now we can start them on the little bites of cheddar cheese we cut up for them as treats to help reinforce the good behavior of sitting for attention. They are a relaxed group of pups and we rarely hear them. We’re keeping up with the socialization and holding. Here they are at six weeks old, as you can see, they get cuter every week!

July 26, 2017 –  It’s been a fun week here and it seems a lot has happened with Riley’s pups in one week. Winnie’s puppies all left and we moved Riley and her babies into the larger pen with a cot and litter box and a little more room to play. Their coats are filling in and they’re starting to get their curls. They started on kibble. They’re gaining in confidence and playing out in the kitchen with us. They are litter box trained (not an accident in two days in their pen!). They don’t have all their teeth yet, so can’t eat their cheese treats and are continuing to nurse in between their mushy kibble meals. They’re adorable!  Here they are at five weeks old.

July 19, 2017 – The puppies are more active, wrestling, playing and even barking at us! Cute for now.  🙂  They’ve been having baths, had their nails trimmed today and are still nursing very regularly with mama. They are having visitors regularly from family and friends and this is all so good for their socialization. They are being exposed to vacuums, blow dryers and new objects and sounds regularly.  All good for them!  Here they are at four weeks old today! Adorable, we think!

July 12, 2017 – Riley and Basil’s puppies are three weeks old today and they’re learning to walk, to play and are seeing and hearing! They’re more vocal, wrestling and discovering one another. They’re not quite ready for toys yet, but it won’t be long. They’ve now entered the critical stage of being very aware of outside experiences and sounds, and we want to introduce them to as much as possible to help set a great foundation for the rest of their lives. This phase is critical for emotional conditioning before they develop fear (at around five weeks of age.) Socializing them becomes super important in the next two weeks, as does introduction to loud sounds such as vacuums and kitchen appliances to help them get used to things that could seem scary later on. All of these things conditions their temperament. We don’t want to raise puppies that have anxiety issues!  Here they are at three weeks old.

July 5, 2017 – Two weeks old and our eyes are open! Hello World! It’s been easy taking are of these wee ones. Very quiet, eating well, and gaining weight. Sleeping all day long, as usual at this age. We love when they open their eyes and begin to hear. They seem to be trying hard to focus. Here they are at two weeks old!

June 28, 2017 – Riley’s pups are one week old. We always breathe a little sigh of relief when we get through the first critical week in a pup’s life, knowing sometimes a puppy doesn’t thrive or mama accidentally can lay and crush them in those earliest days. We’ve not had that happen in a very long time, but we always celebrate a little when they reach one week old! They’ve continued to be healthy from day one, eating well, gaining weight and moving around a bit now. Their pigmentation is turning black, and mama stays close by. When someone is fussing, we rush to see what’s wrong, but mama Riley is always already there handling it. Four pups appear red and two seem more caramel, but all pretty close in color at this point. Weights also are almost the same right now, all around a pound. We started the Bio-sensor program a few days ago and they’re already being more relaxed as we stimulate them neurologically and begin our earliest emotional conditioning. We hired someone from the vet’s office to come by several times a week to help with each puppy so that nothing gets missed. Baths, feedings, wormings, and of course, lots of holding and nurturing is critical.

Here are our beautiful little Riley and Basil puppies at one week old! Our Noodle Doodles.
